Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) or Tapping as it’s sometimes known, is a technique using your fingertips to release negative energy to restore your natural balance.
Derived from Traditional Chinese Acupressure and combined with present day psychology it’s becoming a popular self-help practice. It’s estimated that over 10 million people now practice this technique.
EFT (Tapping) focuses on 9 specific energy points along the meridians of your body, located on your head, face, collarbone, hand and just below your armpit. While tapping, verbalise or mentally focus on your negative memories, emotions, fears, anxieties, trauma or concerns in your everyday life.
This helps to dissipate negative feelings so you can begin to allow acceptance. This process works on your brain, energy and body simultaneously, stimulating self-healing.
Meridians are a concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine - a network of channels that circulate your life force energy around your body. It’s believed to connect the surface of your body with your organs. Along these channels are points where energy can be accessed so healing can take place. It’s essential for energy to flow evenly through these channels so good health can be maintained.
You’re tapping in to your life energy circulating around your body, this releases blockages and brings your body back in to balance. A disruption in your body’s energy or blockage will create negative symptoms such as anxiety, pain, dis-ease or illness - this can be restored by tapping the appropriate points.
Tapping connects directly to the brain part of your central nervous system and accesses the amygdala that controls emotions, emotional behaviour and motivation along with your fight and flight response. When your body is stressed the amygdala produces the hormone cortisol, this may influence or possibly be causing the problems you’re suffering from.
Safely and quickly, tapping can get you to the root of your problems and make significant, positive changes in your life. It could be, ridding yourself from the fear of flying, visits to the dentist, feelings of guilt or sadness - tapping has shown to be very effective.
Once you have learnt the EFT technique from your therapist, you’ll be able to use this simple process anytime you need it. This safe and easy technique helps to keep you calm and positive while providing your Self with support, giving you back control.
EFT can easily be learnt by anyone and thereafter, is with you for life.
